Moving is a huge task! For some, this task is made even harder because it requires deciding what to take and what to donate. Even though it’s frustrating, decluttering before a big move is important. If you’re downsizing, you won’t physically have enough space for all your belongings, so a purge is essential. If you’re in the process of moving, here are some tips to help you declutter.
Towels and Bed Linens
If your towels and bed linens are old, you might want to consider donating them and buying new ones. If you’re not sure about what you want to keep, storage units are a great way to keep things out of the way until you have time to evaluate everything.
Clothing
It’s a good habit to go through your closet once or twice a year and figure out what you want to keep and what you want to donate. If you haven’t worn something in six months to a year or more, toss it in the donation pile.
Makeup
A lot of people accumulate makeup over the years that they try out for a week or two and then stash under the sink. When packing up your bathroom, don’t bring those cosmetics along. Throw them out, and make space for toiletries you actually use.
Paperwork
Paperwork builds up over the years. Some of it is necessary, but some of it isn’t. If you’re unsure about whether or not you’ll need various documents, and you don’t have time to analyze everything, store your paperwork in a storage unit until you have time to look through it.
