For many motorcycle enthusiasts in Joplin, MO, finding the right storage space for their bikes during the winter is essential. 2. Maintain the battery.
When your bike is in storage, there are many ways to maintain the battery. First, you can remove it and place it on a trickle charger. You can also insert a pigtail, which will make a hookup to a trickle charger much easier.

3. Change fluids.
Before you store your bike, change the oil, clutch, coolant, and brakes. If you do this, your bike will run smoother when the weather warms up again.

4. Clean your bike thoroughly.
Your motorcycle should be spotless before you put it into storage. Clean the chain and brakes thoroughly, and then wash the rest of the bike.

5. Cover it up.
Not all covers are made equal. Plastic is a poor choice because it will encourage moisture buildup, which can lead to corrosion and mold. Try to find a ventilated cover that breathes.

6. Use fuel stabilizer.
Before you store your bike in Joplin, add fuel stabilizer to the tank. Run the bike for a few minutes, and then turn it off. This will run the stabilizer through the fuel-injection system, which will keep it from building up residue while you’re not riding on a regular basis.

7. Prepare the exhaust.
Lastly, clean the exhaust and spray a little bit of WD-40 in the end of the pipe. This will help protect the exhaust from moisture. When you’re done, place a plastic bag in the pipe, wrap a rubberband around it, and seal it off. This is to keep vermin out of your motorcycle. They tend to crawl inside small, dark places when it’s cold outside.
